LPAC: Weekly update (5/7/18)

Woo-hoo, it’s week TWO! It’s been great having all the penguins back in the pool. Here are just a few updates and reminders:

  • New swimmers who are still trying out for the team should now come at 5:30 (unless the coaches have already told you to attend a different practice time). The roster will be finalized by the end of this week.
  • This week at practice, we’ll continue building up our conditioning and shaking off the rust.
  • Thank you to Tabby Vaidyanath and her hard-working crew of pancake flippers for putting on another great pancake breakfast on Saturday morning!
  • Penguin Madness is on Friday, May 18 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. There is a signup sheet posted at the pool. Be sure to mark whether you will or will not be able to attend, so we can start making up teams. We will have games for parents again this year, so plan to come and join in the madness!
  • Time Trials will be on Saturday, May 26, which is on Memorial Day weekend. If your child will have to miss all or part of the meet, please send email to coaches@swimlpac.org and also to volunteers@swimlpac.org. If you do miss Time Trials, you must attend make-ups on Tuesday, May 29.

LPAC: Weekly update (4/30/18)

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the pool tonight! Just a few reminders as we start our first week of the swim team season:

  • Practices start today (Monday, April 30), with age group times as follows:
    • New swimmers only: 5:00-5:30 pm
    • 8 & under: 5:30-6:15 pm
    • 9-11: 6:15-7:00 pm
    • 12-14: 7:00-8:00 pm
    • High school: 8:00-9:00 pm
  • Suits and merchandise will be sold at the first two days of practice (on Monday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 1). Please plan to come before your regular practice time to try on suits and merchandise. (It’s much easier to do that before the kids get wet.) And don’t forget your checkbook! All swimmers are required to have a team suit or a plain black suit for meets and Picture Day.
  • Celebrate the start of the swim team season and catch up with other penguin families at the Pancake Breakfast this Saturday, May 5 from 8:30 to 10:00 am in the Clubhouse. The cost is just $5 for a hearty pancake breakfast, and all proceeds benefit LPAC. You do not need to RSVP for this event, but we could use some volunteers to help with setup, cooking, and cleanup. Please contact Tabby Vaidyanath (408-578-8319) if you’re able to help.
  • If you are interested in being a Stroke and Turn Judge this year, plan to attend the Stroke & Turn Judging Clinic on Sunday, May 6 at the Montevideo Clubhouse at 1:00 pm.
  • Penguin Madness is on Friday, May 18 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. We will have a signup sheet posted at the pool later this week where kids can sign up if they are planning to attend. You do not need to send email at this time.
  • You should be receiving separate emails from the Volunteer Coordinators about signing up for jobs at meets. If you have not received any yet, please send email with your contact information to volunteers@swimlpac.org. Remember that in addition to your regular shifts at meets, this year we are requiring every family to sign up for at least one clean-up shift after a home meet.
  • Just a reminder: If you need to relay any specific information to the coaches, please send email to coaches@swimlpac.org.
  • If you have any questions about special events or general team information, you can send email to info@swimlpac.org.

Dust off those caps and goggles, and we’ll see you all very soon!

LPAC: Thanks for a great season!

Dear Penguins and Parents:

Thanks to all for a great swim season! Just a few end-of-season things:

  • If you did not attend the Banquet, you can pick up your trophies and ribbons at Coach Scott’s house. Please send email to info@swimlpac.org to arrange a time. After this week, they’ll go back into the container until next season!
  • For a limited time, you can view or download the 2017 video here: LPAC-2017-Final.mp4. Thanks again to the video team for making this available to all!
  • Nancy Keslin received a letter at the banquet and would like to follow up but needs more information. Please email her directly at nkeslin@yahoo.com.
  • If your kids love swimming and are sad the season is over, maybe they should give year-round swimming a try! We’re lucky to live close to several good teams that offer flexible programs and schedules. See the Year-Round Swimming page on the team website for more information. You can send mail to coaches@swimlpac.org or talk to any of the year-round swim families to discuss which program might work best for you.

Enjoy the rest of your summer…GO PENGUINS!

LPAC: Friday reminders (7/21/17)

This is it — the last Friday reminder email of the swim season!

CHAMPS CHECK-IN: 6:40 AM

Remember: swimmers need to check in tomorrow no later than 6:40 am at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center (16200 Condit Road). Meet entries and volunteer assignments have been posted to the website.

Please leave plenty of time to drive to Morgan Hill, park, and locate the check-in table in our designated team area. LPAC will be in the same location as last year, in the middle of the grassy area at the warmup end of the pool (see map posted to the Champs page of the website). Gates will not open until 6:15 am, so please do not arrive before then.

If your child is ill, please call or text Coach Scott at 408-613-5126.

Parents, please check in at the volunteer table and be sure to listen for announcement and shift changes. You can pick up your Snack Bar or Mr. Pickle meal tickets when you check in.

We encourage you to purchase a program, food, and t-shirts — all proceeds help our team and the league pay for Champs!

SPAGHETTI DINNER TONIGHT FOR TEENAGERS

The Spaghetti Dinner (for all swimmers ages 13-18) is tonight at the clubhouse from 6-7 pm; the cost is $8 per swimmer. Thank you to the Blacow family for coordinating this event, and to all the parents who volunteered to bring food and help out. Don’t forget to bring your cars if you want them decorated for Champs!

BANQUET ON SUNDAY

The LPAC Team Awards Banquet will be on Sunday starting at 4:30 pm. Remember to bring your own folding chairs. We look forward to getting all the penguins back together one last time to hand out trophies and celebrate another great season!

SPIRIT NIGHT THANKS

Special thanks to Judy Seps, Coach Ryan, Sergio and Heather Castro, and Carl Anderson for working together all season long to put together the great team video! If you didn’t get to see it or want to keep a copy for yourself, we’ll make a link available to download…stay tuned for more details.
